Jordan's Top 10 Releases Of 2023

Posted by Matthew Davies on

Jordan is the latest face to grace the Tangled Parrot line-up, making sure customers in Swansea are fed, caffeinated and share the love of music. Jordan's enthusiasm probably tops everyone else's - his genuine excitement with music is infectious.

Here are his top ten releases of 2023, in no particular order.

OBLIQUE OCCASIONS - 危険な心痛 lp

Genre: Instrumental Hip-Hop / Electronica
Sit back and enjoy a splendid journey of chill, jazzy beats created by Oblique Occasions. True to his name, he keeps it delightfully oblique.
DJ K - PANICO NO SUBMUNDO

Genre: Experimental Electronica / Hip-Hop
Emerging from the savage depths of Sao Paulo, this is Bruxaria Sound! A blend of horrorcore and brazilian funk - this debut album from DJ K is bass heavy, kick heavy and full of energy.
I had an instant love for this sound and its pounding beats.
LEROY - GRAVE ROBBING
Genre: Dance / Hyperpop / Electronica
Sampling every pop song of the last 50 years including the 1986 single Crush on You by The Jets. If my ADHD-ridden mind was an album this is what it would sound like.

My favourite release of the year.

Favourite tracks: it's up to YOU now!!, omg! ~CR*SH DESIRE~.
FELIPE ORJUELA - EL DERROCHE

Genre: Cumbia / Latin-Funk / Electronica
This album smells like smoky, sizzling street food. A fantastic vibrant cumbia album that transports you to another world, that world serves tacos. 🌮
YEULE - SOFTSCARS

Genre: Alternative Pop / Electronica
BUY HERE!
On a Saturday morning at Tangled Parrot, I decided to finally listen to this album that had been lingering on my to-listen-to list for months.
Before the day's shift, while emptying the dishwasher, I paused and thought – "well, this is f*cking good" – and by that, I mean the album, not the dishwasher.
Favourite tracks: ghosts, dazies.
A.S.O. - A.S.O.
Genre: Dream Pop / Trip Hop
Classic 90s trip-hop vibes. Lush tracks and well produced. All the songs are catchy and the album has great replay value. Do not miss out on adding this to your playlist.
ANA FRANGO ELÉTRICO - ME CHAMA DE GATO QUE EU SOU SUA

Genre: Indie-Pop / Jazz-Pop
Brazilian Boogie music. Bright, fun and well worth a listen.
PATRICK SHIROISHI - EVERGREEN

Genre: Ambient
A stunning ambient album based on the artist's visits to the Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles. Four gorgeous tracks to unwind and clear the mind.
PURELINK - SIGNS

Genre: Ambient / Electronica / Dub
Picture this: a warm, expansive soundscape with a saturated feel. A superb dub ambient album I've really enjoyed listening to and you should too.
KELELA - RAVEN
Genre: Electronica
This album did not receive the love it deserves, I've read some have said it falls short of her last album "Take Me Apart." However I find it super soulful, dark and a great companion for my study sessions. The mellow charm of this album provides an atmosphere of focus - make yourself a coffee, press play and get things done.
Favourite tracks: Happy Ending, Raven.
