Welsh indie‐pop favourites The Sweetest Ache return this November with Reframed, their first new
LP in more than three decades. Formed in Swansea in 1989, the band became one of Sarah
Records’ most distinctive voices, celebrated for shimmering guitars, emotional clarity, and a melodic
sensibility that helped define the label’s legacy. Their early singles If I Could Shine, Tell Me How It
Feels and Everlasting, along with their debut album Jaguar remain essential documents of the era.
The decades that followed their original releases have been well‐covered elsewhere. What matters
now is that although the music paused, the friendships endured. Across 32 years, the band lived life,
raised families, and stayed connected through reunions and shared musical pilgrimages. Those
quiet, steady bonds form the emotional foundation of Reframed — strengthened further by the
addition of lifelong friend Dave Jones on bass, who joins original vocalist Simon Court, and
guitarists Peter Stone and Stuart Vincent, bringing another layer of history and warmth to the
group’s renewed sound.
The catalyst for their return arrived unexpectedly in 2025, when Huw Williams of Pooh Sticks and
Swansea Sound fame invited the band to perform a one‐off support slot for The Gentle Spring
(ex-Field Mice) at a Swansea show. What happened next came as an exciting surprise to everyone.
The venue filled far beyond expectation — not only with friends and family, but with fans who had
travelled from across the UK and Europe to witness the moment. The audience that night was
unexpected, a powerful reminder that there was still a genuine desire to see and hear The Sweetest

Ache after all these years. The sold‐out night became transformative, sparking a renewed creative
energy and turning a single appearance into a new chapter.
Reframed features 10 tracks: eight stripped back, acoustic reinterpretations drawn from their Sarah
Records singles and Jaguar LP, alongside two brand‐new songs — 'Speak to Me', featuring Poppy
Stone, Peter’s daughter, whose vocal contribution adds a touching family dimension to the band’s
return, and 'Breaking Up’, something that many of us can painfully relate to when remembering our
formative years. The LP also includes a new version of Briaris, with Simon taking the lead vocal for
the first time on this song (previously sung by the band’s friend Louise), adding fresh emotional
weight to a fan favourite and highlighting the band’s evolving dynamic.
