Steve Earle - Copperhead Road 2CD
"Copperhead Road" is one of the best albums ever by Steve Earle, blending influences from such artists as Johnny Cash, the Charlie Daniels Band, Waylon Jennings, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson, the Marshall Tucker Band, Tompall Glaser, The Outlaws, Billy Joe Shaver, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, and the Allman Brothers Band circa "Brothers and Sisters" with a touch of alternative attitude, creating the best country-rock sound this side of the 70s southern rock boom.
The songs on side one are a loose suite based on the experiences of Vietnam veterans during and after the war, with several lines in the title track being so cautionary about the dangers of going where you shouldn't be. Earle's belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes this an essential purchase for both your ears and your conscience.
