Septicflesh has a remarkable ability to maintain continuity from album to album, while at the same time building on what has they have created in the past. Lyrical elements incorporated in all of their albums are based on opposites. For example, the ideas of heaven and hell, good and evil, or development and destruction have often served as metaphorical images in Septicflesh's lyrics.

Musically, the band also plays on opposites, using the dynamic differences between dissonant vs. melodic and dark vs. light to create a blend of gentle orchestral passages with the heavy wall of sound that produces something very unique in the world of metal music.
