Mastodon - Remission 2LP

It's crazy to think that this debut from Mastodon came out so long ago, in 2002, when it still sounds as fresh, ferocious and crushing as any modern contenders.

While Mastodon are well known for their concept albums, this was considered the only non-concept album until "The Hunter" in 2011, but it does focus on the theme of fire and drummer Brann Dailor's personal loss. The charge of this album starts immediately with the spine-tingling sample of the tyrannasourus rex from "Jurassic Park" and Lex screaming her brother's name; to then jump immediately from one crushing riff to another throughout the whole album - while showcasing incredible prowess.

A definitive must-listen for any sludge/metal fan.
